Immortalising the beautiful Nell beak in an offcut of Portland;
Firstly I had a play in some other media to get a feel for her dimensions: The Green Man; I did a fair bit of research on this one! First seen in Pagan symbology as as a fertility figure or to symbolise re-birth. Adopted by the Christian church possibly to help convert the Pagans?
So according to the artistic process that was being instilled in me by the other members of Shapeshifters, I started off creating an air drying clay maquette / model to work from.
As you can see I was so impatient to get the chisels out that I didnt spend alot of time on it! In hindsight this was really useful and I ended up keeping it moist and re-working throughout the carving. |
